October 20, 2005: El has started kindergarten at a new school! She's having a great time and has made lots of new friends. Her teacher is nice, though she deducts points for El for messy coloring. Sheesh. In the beginning, she played with two boys in second grade, but now, she's hanging out more with a boy in her class and two to four other girls, depending on the day. She plays with different people every day. But just yesterday, El got into the car and told me the story of how one girl, Gillian, went up next to her during naptime and tapped her on the back. El turned around and while giving El a "dirty, horrible look," she says, "one day, I'm going to kick your butt." Unphased, El raises her hand and tells the teacher. The teacher said that she's going to have a talk with Gillian's mom. Hahah. This girl gets in trouble in class almost every day anyways. But I'm really glad to see that El didn't really feel bad about it, she just did what she was supposed to do. I asked her how this made her feel, and all she said was, "I just told the teacher." She said she didn't feel scared or sad or anything. (So unlike mommy--which is good!) So she's holding her own out there on the play yard. Another boy, whom she knew from preschool, asked her the other day, "Are you still my girlfriend?" Not knowing quite what to say, she said, "Yes, hee hee, ha ha." But assured me later that it's just for pretend. Another 2nd grade boy stuck a quarter in her backpack so she could go to the student store to buy candy. A couple days after that, a different boy gave her 85 cents to take home. What is it with boys giving girls money? I asked El to please not take the money next time and just say that she has her own. (She didn't know that the boy have her that quarter until after he walked away.) My little baby...*sigh* October 22, 2005: Mommy's cousin's wedding.
